I have a serious love/hate relationship with going to the grocery store. I love the store when I go, it’s not busy and I can get in and out in a reasonable time (i.e. No searching in weird places for that one item that I just reallllly need!). I hate the grocery store when it’s super busy, takes way longer than necessary and when I forget my list at home (THE WORST). While I wish I could subsist on cookies and pound cake all day long, I do need some produce mixed in here and there. It seems like, most of the time, when I go to the store, the biggest thing I need are fruits and veggies to get me through the week. Since, I eat mostly plant based, I obviously go through them pretty quickly and try to pack as many into all my meals as I can. So, when Door to Door Organics reached out and wanted to know if I wanted to try their service, it was met with a ‘heck yeah!’ and some happy dancing in the kitchen. They are not only saving me from my love/hate relationship with the grocery store, but also saving me from myself and eating chocolate chips for dinner.
The Door to Door Organics concept is pretty simple, they deliver a box of fresh, organic produce to your door each week, while you get to add grocery items from their store and sub in different types of produce for ones you can actually use. For example, since I’m not a huge avocado fan, a few weeks in a row I subbed in blood oranges for the avocados, or added a bottle of locally made kombucha to my order. I love that not only do they have all this awesome produce, but that I can get some of my favorite local products as well (my new favorite coffee and the best locally made chocolate bar). Each week, they drop off my box of produce on the porch and I get to forgo running to the store during my lunch break, win! Using the service has also made it super easy to meal plan for the week, since I can see online what I’m going to get in next week’s box, I will plan around the produce and add in a few grocery items to supplement and round out the meal plan for the week.
Giveaway: So, I’ve been loving Door to Door Organics so much over the past month, that it’s time for a giveaway! I will be giving away 3 $50 gift certificates to the service, as well as offering a $10 off code (link takes you right to the code)to first time customers of the service. Before you enter, make sure Door to Door delivers to your area, I would hate for you to win and not be able to use the gift certificate. To enter, leave a comment below telling me your favorite fruit! Mine are strawberries, which I am for to come into season in the upcoming months. You have until April 1st to enter, when the winners will be chosen at random.
Hope you are enjoying your week, it’s gloomy here today but I’m hoping the sunshine will come out later!

Sounds like a cool service! I’m not entering the contest, though. Unfortunately, they don’t deliver to my area. Bummer!
About forgetting your grocery list, have you considered using a grocery list app on your phone? When I finally got a smartphone a couple of years ago, I started using a grocery list app, and I love it! My husband and I are connected on the app, and we can each add to it and remove from it remotely. It insures that I never forget it at home. I use Grocery IQ, but there are lots of them!
One last thing, not a huge avocado fan??? How does that happen? 😉
Sara @ Cake Over Steak says
This sounds great! Unfortunately they don’t deliver to my area 🙁 – but oh man I wish they did! So I can’t win. (But I’ll still tell you I ALSO love strawberries – or really any berries – and mangos. I’m sad for your lack of avocado love.) I’m the same way where most of the time when I grocery shop I’m stocking up on the fruits and veggies we use on a rotating basis, or milk, etc. A trip to the store is usually necessary because we’re out of bananas and apples (my main sustenance throughout the day), not because of an obscure ingredient or whatever. Ugh and sometimes it’s just a real drag going to the store. I would use this service in a heartbeat if I could.

I love berries but this year I began my love story with pomegranates!

BANANAS, HANDS DOWN. But no yellow or green ones. They need to be RIPE! I’m talkin’ about the black kind that people only dare eat if it’s baked into banana bread.

Mangos, always and forever!!

Mangoes are the way to go! The ones in my area haven’t been super ripe or sweet recently, but I’m so excited for how lovely the produce will be this summer 🙂

Fabulous giveaway Abby! Door to Door is not in my neck of the woods yet… but when they get here, I’d love to try them out! Yeah, going to the store…. its a love hate relationship for me. Love to go when it’s quiet (early in the morning) but awful in the afternoon! It’s hard to take ones time when it’s crazy out there!! My fav fruit is ORANGE! OMGeeee…. so good. What’d you do with that broccoli down in your box?
The Frosted Vegan says
I love early morning grocery shopping! It’s quiet and no one is there. I have oranges coming out of my ears right now, so you are welcome to mine! 🙂 I made a fabulous stir fry with that broccoli, it’s the best way to get my fiance to eat a veggie heavy meal!

Even though I say that I loves all the fruit, apples, bananas, and grapes are my favorites. There are so so many varieties of apples to choose from. And when I get overwhelmed, there’s only one banana variety to choose at our store.
