Ginger packs a punch to this easy non boozy pomegranate spritzer, topped with sparkling water and a dash of bitters!
As with many years, I started out 2017 with a set of goals and intentions. Not really resolutions, since those are kind of not my jam (or anyone’s it seems) and they seem to slip to the wayside as soon as February (aka Valentines and Easter, aka candy season) roll around. Mine include things like ‘drink/eat something green everyday’, ‘set and meet goals for the blog (!!)’ and ‘drink less booze’. While I’m not a lush by any means, I can tend to get carried away on a weekend, when the old fashioneds are flowing and tomorrow is a day without day job work, drinking just a few more cocktails seems like no biggie. Really, what ends up happening is that I get a little tipsy, we go home, I eat most of a bag of potato chips (true story), then I fall asleep in a salt induced coma of ‘I need to workout in the morning’. Morning comes and all I want is greasy potatoes, the couch, and a lot of not being productive for the rest of the day. True life of a late 20 something. Ginger pomegranate spritzers are now coming to my rescue!
I realized that yes, I like having drinks with friends! Happy hour is fun! But not when it ruins the next day or ends up making me frustrated with how little I got done in a weekend. So, the past few weeks of the year I haven’t been drinking nearly as much as I was at the end of the year (hello holidays!). My skin feels clearer, I sleep better, and honestly, I kind of love it. While this doesn’t mean I’m going to be giving up my weekend bloody mary anytime soon, it does mean that I’ve gone into the weekend festivities with a little more intention and thought into what I’m putting into my body. Along that same vein, it’s also totally not fun to be just sipping on water, so a fizzy, sweet-ish drink was something I knew I needed to put together for this new intention.
After I made this ginger pomegranate spritzer, I was sipping on it while testing some blog recipes and it totally felt like a fun cocktail, score! It also still has the sweetness of a fruity drink, without being sugary beyond belief and relying on simple syrups for all the flavor. It’s also kind of fun to see the pomegranate seeds pop up to the top after they are dropped in for a garnish, bubbly water for the win!

This sounds like the perfect mocktail! I love any drinks with ginger, so load me up with a couple of these. And I’m with you on the intentions/goals, instead of hard and fast resolutions. Resolutions like “lose weight” or “no cake” always just stress me out and backfire on me. Let’s be kinder to ourselves, right? Cheers, babe! XOXO!

I can never ever keep up with those kinds of goals! Give me ‘do x less’ or whatever anyday! xoxo

I had that learning curve with booze too. It feels so good when you realize you now have your weekends back. And can do all the fun things, having one or two drinks instead of 10. I love the color of this spritzer, and my go-to lately has been a lemon mint shrub syrup with sparkling water.

Oh the potato chip-induced coma… I’ve been there more times than I’d like to count. I need to shake up my evening snacking for sure!

I’m glad I’m not alone!

I’ve been going through something similar! I’m way more intentional these days about not drinking too much on the weekends and also trying to go to bed at a reasonable hour. WE’RE GETTING OLD. I’ve found that sipping on a kombucha or some other kind of bubbles (like this recipe), especially if you put it in a wine glass or something fancy, feels kind of similar but without the hangover. 😀

YES! Fancy boucha! Girl, you’re telling me, I’m pretty sure the first trip we took together we drank wayyyy more than that last one, ha!

Oh momma if I had a dollar for every time Happy Hour wrecked my next day…. 😉 Your 2017 goals and intentions are very admirable! I can always use more greens in my life, and drinking a tasty spritzer in lieu of booze would be fine by my body! Loving this delicious beverage!

Such a simple but refreshing sipper, Abby! Pom and ginger and so good together and a delicious sipper to have on the ready, especially when shooting (!!). Goal and intentions are WAY better than resolutions in my book. Resolutions feel too restrictive and they never work for me. And a bloody mary? I’d never ever give that up either! 😀
