A virgin margarita with agave and lime, sweet and bubbly! Pairs perfectly with tacos or sitting in the sun on a beach. Made with lime sparkling water Zevia.

There’s a discovery I’ve made that I’ve talked about before on here around aging, drinking, and basically how it doesn’t play that well with me anymore. I’ve never been much of a boozehound, but lately, my tolerance is at an all-time low…and I don’t hate it!
First off, it’s way cheaper—buying 1-2 drinks versus 3-4 over the course of night makes me regret having a drink less and lets me feel ok about eating a slice of lemon tart later in the night.
Honestly, I’ll take food over alcohol for my calories any day. Plus, I’m becoming that kind of person who much more enjoys being able to get up for yoga class on a Saturday morning, rather than sleeping in and feeling crappy the next day. (humblebrag much?) Virgin margaritas to the rescue.
But, going along with all of this, I do like fun drinks!
It’s not very fun to be at our favorite taco place, sipping on water while everyone else splits a pitcher of margaritas. So, I’m here to prove that you can have a margarita-like drink and have it still be fun!
Basically, as long as it’s slightly sweet, lime-y and has some bubbles, a virgin margarita is almost as much fun as a boozy one, without the headache the next day.
What’s in a margarita?
A traditional margarita features lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and a salted rim. There are lots of unique flavor variations to be found (like strawberry or lemon, or a frozen marg), but those are the classic ingredients.
For this virgin margarita recipe, I used the zest and juice of two limes, Zevia lime-flavored sparkling water, a little bit of agave, and some water. The sparkling water made this virgin marg feel extra grown up and also added a nice punch of lime flavor without watering down the drink.
How to make a virgin margarita
To make this easy virgin margarita, you first need to stir the lime juice and zest, water, and agave in a bowl until combined. Divide the lime juice mixture evenly between two glasses, then top with the lime Zevia.
Gently stir the skinny margaritas to combine everything (it’s important that you stir your drink and not shake it in a cocktail shaker, otherwise the sparkling water will lose its bubbles).
I opted to skip the salted rim on my virgin margarita, even though I know a true margarita usually has salt on the rim.
But honestly, I kind of hate that part about them. I don’t really enjoy going to drink my marg and getting a mouthful of salt along with it—just why?!
But, if salt on the rim is more your jam, go for it!
I also think that this would be fun with blood oranges or other citruses (before they go out of season soon!), so I’m planning on taking those variations for a spin soon.
Overall, as long as I have a bubbly virgin margarita drink in hand and tacos in the other, I’m one happy girl.
I hope you have a fabulous and fun weekend!
We got SO much snow here on Monday, so I’m ready for the 40 degree temps that are coming soon. It’s also obviously March Madness (give me all the snacks) and my parents are coming to visit, so I’m sure there will be shopping, eating, and lots of talking about how cute our cat is. Cheers to pre-Friday!

I have been craving a margarita like you would not believe this entire pregnancy, so this virgin version is the best thing I’ve seen all day (no, week. no, month. no, YEAR. :)). Can’t wait to try it!

Ahh I hope you love this! Tequila is great, but sometimes homegirl can’t get down with that 🙂

Ugghhh this whole getting old thing kinda blows. I’m not loving how alcohol makes me feel lately, but I just LOVE cocktails!! I was saying to a friend the other night that I wish I could drink a cocktail every evening but not feel like poop. So someone needs to invent a drink that tastes like whiskey and makes me feel kinda loopy (like booze) but without the dehydration and hangover. K thanks.

Ohhh girl, I’m right there with you! If someone can make that happen, I would be SO HAPPY. xoxo

auuggg.. there are pros and cons, Abby… drinking could be both, I guess. But now, I always stop after one drink. One, because I’m a lightweight when it comes to drinking and two, because I’m with you – I’d rather eat calories than drink them. Now, I’m not one to pass up a good cocktail, but I try to limit those to maybe a few times a week so this virgin margarita is a fabulous pairing with Mexican food… when I want to save that cocktail for the weekend! Delicious my dear!

Yes yes! I would rather have one more taco! xo

This is the best! I love fun cocktails and it’s nice to have options that aren’t just water if you’re not drinking 🙂

It’s just a little more fun!

This is the cocktail of my dreams! I am totally the same way – I would much rather use those calories on chocolate and wake up early the next day then hiding under the covers in pain.

This sounds like my DREAM. Chocolate all the way sister!

I am so with you. I had one cider today and then felt like I needed a nap! Haha. I love this non-alcoholic version – fizzy and flavorful!!

Haha, I had 3 beers and I was OUT last weekend! xoxo

I have a pretty intense relationship with Zevia right now. I’m especially hooked on their Cola. This little refresher sounds so light and crisp. Love it, Abby.
